News from our teachers
새소식
September has been a busy month for me. My boyfriend and I are busy planning for our wedding day and honeymoon next year and things are starting to come together nicely. We completed another 10KM race this month and it still wasn’t easy, but we are getting better at it. We also spent a lovely long weekend with family and friends at the beach, which was a much-needed little vacation for us where we got to unwind and have fun with our loved ones. I took part in National Cupcake Day again this year, which happened on September 30th. I donated many cupcakes that were sold to raise funds for kids with cancer. This is an annual event here in South Africa and it makes me so happy to be able to contribute… since I love kids and baking. I hope all my Korean students and their families had a wonderful Chuseok!
9월은 바쁜 달 이었어요. 남친과 함께 내년에 있을 결혼과 신혼행을 계획중이고 이번 달에도 10KM 레이스를 완주했는데, 여전히 쉽진 않지만 점점 좋아지고 있음을 느껴요. 또 가족 및 친구들과 함께 멋진 해변에서 주말을 보냈어요. 우리에게는 정말 필요한 스몰 휴가였는데, 사랑하는 사람들과 즐거운 시간을 보내며 힐링할 수 있었어요. 올해도 9월 30일에 열린 ‘국립컵케이크데이’에 참여했어요. 판매된 많은 컵케이크를 기부하여 어린이 암 환자들을 위한 기금을 모았어요. 아프리카에서 매년 열리는 행사로, 아이들과 베이킹을 사랑하는 저에게 큰 기쁨이에요. 제 한국 학생들과 그들 가족들이 아름다운 추석을 보냈기를 바래요!
Hey, Fluentella family This month has gone by so fast. My boyfriend and I have been cooking up dishes and desserts from all around the world. It’s become a fun weekly ritual where we spin the globe and pick our next cooking destination. Today, we had delicious burritos!
We’ve also been volunteering as interpreters for an NGO that came to Peru. Their mission was to bring wheelchairs to children who are bravely battling conditions like spina bifida and cerebral palsy. Meeting these incredible kids has been nothing short of heartwarming. Their laughter and boundless joy are truly contagious, and their resilience is awe-inspiring. All in all, it’s been an amazing month, and I’m already counting down the days to see what adventures the next one has in store for us!
안녕하세요, 플루엔텔라 가족 여러분! 이번 달이 너무 빠르게 지나갔어요. 남자친구와 함께 전 세계 각지의 요리와 디저트를 만들어보고 있어요. 우리에게는 이것이 즐거운 평일 습관이 되었어요. 세계 지도를 돌려가며 다음 요리 목적지를 고르기도 해요. 오늘은 맛있는 부리또를 먹었어요!
우리는 또한 페루에 온 비정부 기구를 위해 통역자로 봉사하고 있어요. 그들의 미션은 스파이너 비피다나 뇌성마비와 같은 상태와 용감히 싸우는 아이들에게 휠체어를 가져다 주는 거예요. 이런 아이들을 만나게 되는 것은 정말 마음 따뜻해지는 경험이었어요. 그들의 웃음과 무한한 기쁨은 엄청난 전파력이 있고, 불굴의 의지는 경외심을 자아내요. 정말 멋진 달이었고, 이미 다음 달에 어떤 모험이 우리를 기다리고 있을지 기다리며 계획을 세우고 있어요!
My mom’s dream of becoming a grandmother will soon come true. My sister is expecting her first baby in February, and we can’t be more excited than we are at the moment. After getting the good news, my mom decided to design and crochet a blanket for the little one. She put so much effort and love into it, and it looks absolutely amazing. I am sure my sister will love it, and I think I am more excited than my mom to hear what she says when my mom gives it to her in October when she visits them.
This month I have also been working on promotional classes with a wonderful student from South Korea, and we are having a lot of fun so far. We had a good laugh in our last class when it turned out that the secret box that I had prepared before the class for ‘Show and tell’ was filled with items that she had as well, and as I took each item out of the box to show her, she picked up the same item on her side to show me that she has one as well. It was perfect, and I am sure the next couple of classes will be as well.
저의 엄마가 할머니가 되는 꿈이 곧 이루어질 거예요. 언니가 2월에 첫째 아기를 출산할 예정이고, 너무 기뻐 어쩔줄 모르겠어요. 기쁜 소식을 듣고 나서 엄마는 작은 아가를 위해 담요를 디자인하고 직접 뜨기로 결정했어요. 정말 많은 노력과 사랑을 들여서 만들었는데, 정말 멋지게 완성되고 있어요. 언니도 정말 좋아할 거라고 확신하고 있고, 엄마가 10월에 그들을 방문할 때 언니에게 선물로 주면서 그녀가 무슨 말을 할지 듣는 게 엄마보다는 더 설레이는 것 같아요. 이번 달에는 한국에서 온 훌륭한 학생과 프로모션 수업을 진행하고 있어요. 정말 재미 있어요. 수업에서 많은 웃음을 나눴어요. ‘Show and tell’을 위해 수업 전에 준비한 비밀 상자에서 나온 물건들이 그녀도 가지고 있는 물건들이었더라는 사실을 알게 되었을 때였어요. 상자에서 물건을 하나씩 꺼내서 보여주면, 그녀는 그와 똑같은 물건을 가지고 나와서 자기도 가지고 있다고 보여줬어요. 정말 재미있었고, 다음 수업들도 재미있을 거라고 확신해요.
It’s hard to believe how quickly time is passing! We’re already approaching the end of the year, with only three months left. Looking back at September, I must say it was a month full of challenges and interesting experiences. As an educator and coach, I had the privilege of teaching and mentoring students. However, it wasn’t just about imparting knowledge, I also put in a lot of effort to learn and grow myself, so that I can provide the best possible learning experience to my students. In today’s world, following the latest and best practices is the only way to invest in our careers. It’s equally important to provide our students with a learning journey that motivates them to do their best and secure a bright future.
시간이 이렇게 빨리 흘러가네요! 연말이 다가오고, 남은 시간이 단 세 달밖에 없어요. 9월을 돌아보면 도전과 흥미로운 경험으로 가득 찬 한 달이었어요. 교육자이자 코치로서 학생들을 가르치고 지도하는 일을하지만, 지식을 전달하는 것만이 아니라 스스로 학습하고 성장하기 위해 노력한 한 달이었어요. 그래서 학생들에게 최고의 학습 경험을 제공할 수 있게 되었어요. 오늘날에는 최신과 최고의 방법을 따르는 것이 우리의 직업에 투자하는 유일한 방법이에요. 또한 학생들에게 스스로 최선을 다하고 미래를 밝게 보장하는 학습 여정을 동등하게 제공하는 것이 중요해요.

“Family histories have been important since far into pre-history, and have only grown in importance in the years since. Family histories tell people who they are, where they come from, and what great line of ancestors they may have in their background.
In the past, family history was held in high regard by many types of people, carrying the honors and dishonors of everyone who came before them. In the medieval ages, one’s lineage was of such import that entire texts were created tracing the lineage of every noble person in the various lands! In other places, the family history was written into the front blank pages of the most important of all books, the big family Bible.
The science of studying one’s family history is called genealogy and, in recent years, it has become even more important for reasons beyond simply tracking the family line. Many conditions and diseases have been discovered to be congenital, meaning that they pass from mother or father to child. Tracking the family history means that doctors can keep an eye out for these conditions during health checkups, and may be able to prevent or slow their progress as you age.
Who would have thought that Family History Month would be as much about where a person came from, as where they might be going?
