News from our teachers

์ƒˆ์†Œ์‹

The older you get, the faster time goes by. I can’t believe we are at the end of February 2022 already. This has been quite a busy month for me. Fluentella has welcomed a big group of Spanish, Italian, and Indian students, which has been wonderful! I’ve also tried to maintain my exercise routine of going for at least three 5km runs each week. It has not been easy, but I’m sure if I keep going I will see great results in a few weeks. My dog, Mika, absolutely loves going on runs with me. She is the best jogging companion ever! I hope you are sticking to your resolutions as well! Fighting!

February has been a strange month weather-wise! We’ve had both the most snow and sunshine during the last couple of weeks of this Winter in my city. I’ve spent most of my time indoors this month. Netflix has been my best friend! The school year has come to an end and I’ve had to say goodbye to some of my favorite students and classes, but I’m looking forward to getting to know all my new students and having a great time together. This year I’ll be teaching kindergarten, elementary and middle school! I’m looking forward to new challenges and new experiences!

I went back to my hometown to celebrate this Spring Festival with my whole family. I had to travel 807 miles to celebrate with my family. We decorated our houses with red for good luck and children were given money in bright red envelopes. Celebrations lasted for two weeks, ending on 15 February this year with the lantern festival, which marks the full moon. This year is the Year of the Tiger. It is said that children born in the year ahead will be brave, competitive, and strong. I was born in 1986, the year of the tiger as well. So I got many red presents from my family and friends to avoid bad luck. Thanks to all of them!

February has been a month full of changes. Our baby girl is growing and we have been learning about her routines. On the other hand, I have been working on new and different ideas to offer my students. I love to see them happy and excited to learn. This year will be amazing! Hello Fluentella family, I hope that you are all doing well and that you are having a great new year so far. February has been a good month, Iโ€™ve just been recharging the batteries and enjoying lots of hiking around Latvia. It has been nice to be in one place for a lengthy period, but I am ready to get back on the road again. February was also the month where I planned what is going to be one of my biggest ever challenges, I am going to climb Mount Blanc in France in August, itโ€™s the highest mountain in the Alps and in Western Europe. Over the next few months, I will be training hard to hopefully reach the summit. Sending you all lots of positivity and I hope you had a great February!

โ€œLearn how to use Pinyin.โ€

โ€œ๋ณ‘์Œ(Pinyin) ์‚ฌ์šฉ๋ฒ• ๋ฐฐ์šฐ๊ธฐ!โ€

Pinyin is a system used for writing Mandarin Chinese using the Roman alphabet.
Hanyu Pinyin is the most common form of such Romanization and is used in many textbooks and teaching materials. Pinyin allows students of Mandarin to focus on their pronunciation, while also enabling them to read and write, without needing to learn complex Chinese characters. Although Pinyin uses the Roman alphabet, the pronunciation of its letters is often not intuitive to English speakers, which is why it must be studied carefully before it can be used. For example, the letter โ€œcโ€ in Pinyin is pronounced like the โ€œtsโ€ in the word โ€œbitsโ€, the letter โ€œeโ€ is pronounced like the โ€œerโ€ in the word โ€œhersโ€ and the letter โ€œqโ€ is pronounced like the โ€œchโ€ in the word โ€œcheapโ€. Due to these differences, it is essential that you learn the correct Pinyin pronunciations before using it as a guide.
Although learning Pinyin pronunciations may seem like a pain, it can be extremely beneficial to your language learning and is still significantly easier than learning to recognize the traditional Chinese characters.” read more at https://www.workandliveinchina.com/how-to-learn-mandarin-chinese/ย

What’s happening in march?ย

3์›”์˜ ์ƒˆ ์†Œ์‹

March 3rd is World Book Day! 3์›” 3์ผ์€ ์„ธ๊ณ„ ์ฑ…์˜ ๋‚ !

World Book Day takes place annually on the first Thursday in March. On World Book Day, children everywhere head off to school dressed up as their favorite literary characters.

World Book Day was created by UNESCO in April 1995 as a worldwide celebration of books and reading. Itโ€™s marked in over 100 countries around the globe. The day aims to โ€œpromote reading for pleasureโ€ while offering โ€™every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their ownโ€™. While inspiring people to read more, their mission is also to reach children from disadvantaged backgrounds. It focuses on the importance of reading in young peopleโ€™s development and how reading more impacts future success.
Books are more than simple pieces of paper with words on them (or, in the case of digital books, a bunch of pixels on a screen). Theyโ€™re a door into another world, whether thatโ€™s one full of fiction and imagination or a factual world that teaches you incredible new things. World Book Day is all about celebrating the wonderful power of books and the joy of reading. Itโ€™s especially meant to help encourage a love of reading in children, but people of all ages can recognize and celebrate the day.

Activities:
Encourage others to read more too, especially if youโ€™re a parent or teacher. Read a book out loud to children, young people, or perhaps some older people. Curl up on the couch or a blanket outside with a cup of coffee or tea and enjoy your favorite book. Arrange a get-together with some friends for a reading of a book you all love. Take your children or students to the library to choose their own book. Host a dress-up party at your home or school where each person dresses as their favorite literary character.

International Womenโ€™s Day is celebrated on March 8th! ์„ธ๊ณ„ ์—ฌ์„ฑ์˜ ๋‚ ์€ 3์›” 8์ผ!

International Womenโ€™s Day is dedicated to honoring the social, cultural, economic, and political achievements of women throughout history and across the globe. The global celebration of IWD is a time for reflection on how far women have come, advocacy for what is still needed, and action to continue to break down barriers.
This is an important day for all women around the world, but perhaps especially paramount in parts of the world where women are still forced to deal with inequality on a daily basis. On IWD we celebrate all the amazing things women have achieved and are still achieving, from obtaining the right to vote to their undeniable remarkable multitasking abilities! We have certainly seen a lot of progress with regards to womenโ€™s rights already, but there are definitely still some changes and improvements to be made.
Letโ€™s celebrate all the special women in our lives this IWD and show them how much we love, respect, and appreciate them. Small actions can make a big impact!

Activities: Wear something purple in support of International Womenโ€™s Day! Do something kind for a woman you love and appreciate. Read a book by a female author. Celebrate women in film by watching a movie directed by a famous female director. Attend an IWD march or networking event.

March is Red Cross Month 3์›”์€ ์ ์‹ญ์ž์˜ ๋‹ฌ

Each year, the President of the United States proclaims March as “Red Cross Month,โ€ giving the organization an opportunity to honor and celebrate the everyday heroes who help them fulfill their mission. More than 75 years ago, March was first proclaimed Red Cross Month in 1943 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to raise awareness of the organization and its humanitarian mission.
The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.

The Red Cross, born of a desire to bring assistance without discrimination to the wounded on the battlefield, endeavorsโ€”in its international and national capacityโ€”to prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found. Its purpose is to protect life and health and to ensure respect for human beings. It promotes mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation, and lasting peace amongst all people.

Every March, they honor people who make the lifesaving mission of the American Red Cross possible โ€” the individuals across the country who turn compassion into action, helping others in times of crisis
We invite you and others to join the Red Cross mission by volunteering, giving blood, learning lifesaving skills, or making a financial donation.

Activities:
Volunteer at your local Red Cross Organization. Complete a health and safety training course with Red Cross, choose from First Aid and CPR training, to Lifeguard and EMR certification. Donate blood – blood donors help patients of all ages. (In fact, every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood.) Donate financially to one of the humanitarian needs/causes of the American Red Cross.
