News from our teachers
새소식
August has been one of the best months of 2022 for me. I went on a 10-day African Safari where I had the privilege and luck to see most of the wild animals of the Kruger National Park in their natural habitat. These included the Big 5 (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and African buffalo) as well as some cheetahs, hippos, hyenas, baboons, zebras, honey badgers, and much more! I went on this trip with my boyfriend’s family. They are all avid bird watchers. They managed to identify 170 different bird species on our trip and broke their previous record of 156 species! I’ll never forget this holiday and it was so much fun sharing the videos and pictures of my trip with my students.
To our Korean students, my wish for you is that this Chuseok brings eternal prosperity, happiness, and bliss to your family.
2022년 중 8월은 최고의 달 이었어요. 10일간의 아프리카 사파리에 갔었어요. 크루거 국립공원의 대부분의 야생 동물들을 자연 서식지에서 볼 수 있는 특권과 행운을 가졌습니다. 여기에는 빅5(사자, 표범, 코뿔소, 코끼리, 아프리카 물소)뿐만 아니라 치타, 하마, 하이에나, 개코원숭이, 얼룩말, 꿀 오소리, 등 그 외 많은 동물들이 있어요! 남자친구의 가족과 함께 이번 여행을 갔었어요. 그들은 모두 열렬한 조류 관찰자입니다. 여행에서 170종의 다른 새들을 식별했고 156종이라는 그들의 종전 기록을 깼습니다. 이번 휴일을 절대 잊지 못할 것이고 여행 비디오와 사진을 학생들과 공유해서 너무 재미있습니다.
한국 학생들에게, 저의 소원은 여러분에게 이번 추석이 당신의 가정에 영원한 번영과 행복, 그리고 행복을 가져다 주는 것입니다.

This month has been full of DIY (do it yourself) projects! I spent a few days painting my home office and am very happy with the results. But, I don’t think I’ll ever paint a room by myself again. Too much work! I’m looking forward to a visit from my mum and sister at the end of the month. I have a lot of fun things planned for us like a hike to see waterfalls, a daysail around the bay, and a drive up the mountain to a little “castle” restaurant for dinner with a view. In my spare time, I’ve been reading a lot of crime fiction, trying to solve the crimes alongside the characters. Any book recommendations are welcome! Enjoy the rest of summer, Fluentella family!
8월은 DIY 프로젝트로 가득 찬 달! 홈 오피스에 그림 그리는데 며칠을 보냈고 그 결과에 매우 만족해요다. 하지만, 다시는 혼자 방을 칠하지 않을 것 같아요. 잡일이 너무 많아요! 나는 이번 달 말에 엄마와 여동생의 방문을 기대하고 있어요. 폭포를 보러 하이킹하고, 만을 일주하는 요트, 경치가 보이는 작은 “성” 레스토랑으로 산에 오르는 드라이브 등 우리를 위해 계획된 재미있는 것들이 가득 차 있습니다. 여가 시간에, 범죄 소설을 읽었고, 등장인물들과 함께 범죄를 해결하려고 했어요. 어떤 책이라도 추천해주세요! 남은 여름을 즐기세요, Fluentella 가족 여러분!
Hi, Fluentella family! It’s been really cold here in South America. I hope it gets warmer soon.
My boyfriend and I went to two baby showers this month and they were really fun! It was great to see some old friends. I’m also really excited to see my friends’ babies once they are born and spoil them as much as I can. In other news, I recently bought a new pet rat as an early birthday gift for myself. I’ve named him Hendrix (like the musician). He loves to cuddle and eat all day. I hope I can teach him some tricks soon. Hope you are all having a great month, too!
Fluentella 가족들 안녕하세요! 여기 남아메리카는 정말 추워요. 빨리 따뜻해졌으면 좋겠어요. 남자친구와 저는 이번 달에 두 번의 베이비 샤워에 갔었는데 정말 재미있었어! 옛 친구들을 만나서 반가웠어요. 저는 또한 제 친구들의 아기가 태어나면 제가 할 수 있는 한 많이 사랑을 듬뿍 줄 것이며 매우 기쁩니다. 다른 소식으로는, 나는 최근에 나를 위한 이른 생일 선물로 새 애완 쥐를 샀어. 나는 그를 헨드릭스라고 이름 지었다. 그는 온종일 껴안고 먹는 것을 좋아한다. 나는 곧 그에게 몇 가지 재주를 가르칠 수 있기를 바란다. 여러분들도 모두 즐거운 한 달을 보내고 있기를 바랍니다!
One weekend evening in August we went to Baiban village beside the Fenhe River for a barbecue. Before the barbecue, we walked along the Fenhe trail for an hour. There were many people camping there. There were also many children playing with water guns. They looked very happy. After the hike, we went to the farmyard we had booked. The owner of the yard helped us make a fire. My husband began to barbecue for us. We brought a lot of fresh mutton, shrimp, chicken crispy bones, sausage, and steamed bread slices. We all ate a lot. It was a perfect night!
8월의 어느 주말 저녁, 우리는 펜허 강 옆에 있는 바이반 마을에서 바베큐를 즐겼습니다. 우선 펜허 산책로를 따라 한 시간 동안 산책을 했습니다. 그곳에는 많은 사람들이 캠핑을 하고, 물총을 가지고 노는 아이들도 많았습니다. 매우 행복해 보였습니다. 산책 후, 우리는 예약한 농장에 갔습니다. 주인은 우리가 불을 피우는 것을 도와주었고 남편이 바비큐를 요리했답니다. 신선한 양고기, 새우, 바삭한 닭고기, 소시지, 그리고 찐 빵 등 많이 가져왔는데 엄청 먹었습니다. 완벽한 밤이었어요!
August was an amazing month because we visited our former home in Galicia, Santiago de Compostela. Mia and my mom were excited to learn about it and we enjoyed our trip with friends who became our family when we lived there. Sightseeing, the amazing food, and the greatest company were the main protagonists of our holiday. Now, coming back to Madrid I feel recharged and ready to do my best with my students who are doing a remarkable job.
8월은 우리가 갈리시아에 있는 산티아고 데 콤포스텔라에 있는 우리의 예전 집을 방문한 즐거운 달이었다. 미아와 엄마는 그것에 대해 알게 되어 신이 났고 우리는 그곳에 살았을 때 가족이 된 친구들과 여행을 즐겼습니다. 관광, 멋진 음식, 최고의 회사가 우리 휴일의 주인공이었습니다. 이제 마드리드로 돌아오니 재충전이 되어 열심히 학습하고 있는 학생들과 함께 최선을 다할 준비가 되었습니다.

Chuseok (“choo-suhk”) is one of the biggest holidays in Korea. It is sometimes referred to as “Korean Thanksgiving” because it’s a special time for family, friends, and food.
When is it?

This year, Chuseok is 10 days earlier than last years (September 10, 2022).

International Day of Sign Language happens on the 23rd of September! 9월 23일은 수화의 날!
“According to the World Health Organization, 466 million people around the world have disabling hearing loss. For some of these people, hearing aids and other assistive devices help improve their hearing. However, in some instances, the type and severity of hearing loss prevent any benefit from hearing aids. Others don’t have access to hearing aids. For these people, sign language is the only way to communicate. Because of this, sign languages is considered just as important as a spoken language.
HOW TO OBSERVE #DayOfSignLanguages
Along with spreading awareness about the importance of sign language, these events educate the public on disabling hearing loss. An excellent way to participate is by learning sign language.
You can learn by watching a video online or taking an enrichment class. Learn sign language with your children. Educate yourself on the importance of sign language. Share this day on social media with #DayOfSignLanguages or #IDSL.”
