Happy Holiday’s everyone! What a fantastic year! I started working at Fluentella this year, and I have enjoyed every minute of it, I’m so grateful for my wonderful students and to work with such dedicated colleagues.
For the third year in a row, I have spent my Christmas outside the United States. It’s a strange feeling being so far away from family and missing out on our usual tradition. What I’ve missed most is cooking with my grandmother. This time of year, she will fly from Kansas to Washington, where my mother lives, and we make our yearly Christmas cookies, cakes, and chocolates. However, since moving away from home I have partaken in all kinds of different holiday celebrations, many of which are not regularly celebrated within the U.S. This year was all about new experiences, new countries, a new job, and a new home. I am looking forward to the coming changes in 2020.

여러분 메리 크리스마스! 기막히게 좋았던 한 해였습니다! 올해 플루엔텔라에 합류하고 난 뒤 매 순간이 즐거움의 연속이었어요. 저의 놀랍도록 멋진 학생들과 자신의 일에 전념하는 멋진 동료들과 함께 할 수 있음에 감사함을 느낍니다.  3년 연속으로 크리스마스를 미국을 떠나보내고 있네요. 가족들로부터 멀리 떨어서 우리만의 크리스마스 전통 행사를 놓치게 되어 이상한 기분입니다. 그중 놓쳐서 가장 아쉬운 것은 할머니와 함께 요리를 하는 것입니다. 매년 이맘때, 할머니는 캔자스에서 엄마가 살고 계시는 워싱턴에 방문하셔서 매년 크리스마스 쿠키들과 케이크들 그리고 초콜릿들을 만든답니다. 하지만 고향으로부터 멀리 떨어져 있으니 미국 안에서 열리는 크리스마스 행사와는 사뭇 다른 행사들에 참여하게 되네요.  이번 연도는 새로운 경험들, 새로운 나라들, 새 직장 그리고 새 집에 적응하는 것들로 충만한 한 해였네요. 

다가오는 2020년에 있을 변화들이 기대가 됩니다.

December on a tropical island is very different from a traditional British December where it’s usually raining, very cold and filled with lots and lots of homely food. However, I am on a sunny island in Indonesia teaching the locals how to make British classics like Yorkshire pudding and ‘pigs in blankets’ which is a sausage wrapped in bacon!
On my days off I have done lots of cycling, snorkeling, and paddleboarding. I feel very grateful to have opportunities to do these things in my spare time and very much looking forward to a tropical Christmas and New Year.

열대지방의 섬에서의 12월은 주로 비가 오고 추운 하지만 맛있는 집 밥을 먹을 수 있는 영국에서의 12월과는 많은 차이가 있습니다. 하지만 햇살 가득한 인도네시아의 섬에서 이 지역 사람들에게 요크셔푸딩과 ‘담요 속의 돼지’, 즉, 베이컨을 두른 소시지와 같은 전통적인 영국 문화를 알려주고 있습니다. 쉬는 날이면 사이클링, 스노클링 그리고 패들 보드를 타며 많은 시간을 보냈습니다.  비는 시간 동안 이런 활동을 이를 할 수 있는 기회를 가질 수 있다는 것은 매우 감사한 일이고 열대지방의 크리스마스와 새해가 무척이나 기대가 되네요.

The first snow of this winter fell this month. I made an appointment with my students to make a snowman and have a snowball fight. Peter picked up two branches to make the Snowman’s arms and hands, Dennis took two hawthorns for the Snowman’s eyes from home, and Serena asked her mother for a carrot to make the Snowman’s nose. We rolled two snowballs, one big and one small, one head and one body. Although our hands were red with cold, everyone had a good time. I still remember when I was a child, every winter, I would go skating on the ice lake with my brothers and sisters. Now we all live in different cities. I really miss them. However, the Spring Festival is coming soon here in China, and 17 members of my family will be reunited again. We are looking forward to it!

이번 달 올해의 첫눈이 내렸어요. 학생들과 눈사람을 만들고 눈싸움 약속을 했습니다. Peter가 눈사람의 팔과 손을 만들기 위해 나뭇가지 두 개를 주워왔고 Dennis는 집에서 산사나무 열매 2개를 가져와 눈사람의 눈을 만들었습니다. 그리고 Serena는 눈사람의 코를 만들어 주려고 엄마께 당근을 받아왔습니다. 우리는 눈덩이 두 개, 하나는 큰 것, 하나는 작은 것을 굴려 머리와 몸을 만들었습니다. 손이 꽁꽁 얼어 빨개졌지만 모두 즐거운 시간을 보냈답니다. 어릴 적 형제자매들과 매년 꽁꽁 언 호수에서 스케이트를 타던 것을 여전히 기억하고 있습니다. 우리는 모두 다른 도시들에서 살고 있어요. 그들이 무척이나 보고 싶습니다.  

그렇지만 중국에서는 곧 춘절이기 때문에 17명의 모든 가족들이 함께 모일 예정입니다. 얼른 그날이 왔으면 좋겠어요!

 What a special December! My husband and I have been spending time with our parents, making them feel welcome and relaxed. Undoubtedly, when you live far away from them, because of the circumstances of your country, you just want to give them an extra dose of quality time. It has meant spending time together doing simple but meaningful things that will be remembered forever. Having them with us smiling and enjoying Christmas is priceless ❤️

특별했던 12월이었습니다! 남편과 저는 부모님이 방문하시는 동안 그들을 편안하게 해드리려는 시간을 보냈습니다. 의심할 여지없이, 각자의 사정으로 인해 부모님으로부터 멀리 떨어져 지내게 된다면, 부모님과 최대한 양질의 좋은 시간을 보내고 싶을 것입니다. 단순하지만 영원히 기억할 수 있게 되는 의미 있는 시간을 보내는 것 말입니다. 부모님과 함께 미소 지으며 크리스마스를 함께 즐기는 것은 돈으로도 바꿀 수 없는 일입니다. ❤️

This end of the year has been amazing, summer has finally arrived and I could finally go to the beach and work on my suntan. I also had the chance to spend time with my family and especially my kitty. Christmas planning is going full steam and I am glad I’m going to see some relatives I haven’t seen in ages. For people all over the world, happy holidays! I hope you get to spend time with your loved ones and enjoy this jolly time of the year.

올 한 해의 마지막은 멋졌어요, 드디어 여름이 되었고 해변에 가서 태닝을 할 수 있게 되었으니까요. 또한 저의 가족들, 특히 제 고양이와 시간을 함께 할 수 있게 되었니다. 크리스마스 계획이 전속력으로 진행되고 있고 오랫동안 만나지 못했던 친척들을 볼 수 있었습니다. 전 세계의 모든 사람들에게 즐거운 명절이 되었으면 좋겠네요! 여러분들 모두 사랑하는 사람들과 이 기쁜 시즌을 즐겁게 보낼 수 있기를 희망합니다.

December is here! I didn’t even realize it, but this year has been going so fast and it was full of projects! This last month of 2019 is really busy for me. I have to take my exams for my master’s degree before celebrating Christmas. This year we are going to stay in a mountain chalet during the holidays. It’s going to be really fun and I am glad to share this time with my family.

12월이 되었습니다! 미처 깨닫지 못했지만 이번 한 해는 진짜 빠르게 지나갔고 많은 프로젝트들로 가득했네요. 2019년의 마지막 달은 제게 정말 바쁜 달이었습니다. 크리스마스를 축하하기 전에 박사 학위를 위한 시험을 치러야 합니다. 크리스마스 연휴 동안 산속의 샬레(오두막)에서 머무를 예정입니다. 완전 재미있는 일이 될 것이고 가족들과 함께 할 수 있어서 무척 기쁩니다.
