News from our teachers
I know most people dread the fact that Christmas music, decorations and gifts are already making an appearance in stores again- but I couldn’t be happier! Christmas is fast approaching and it is by far my favorite part of the year. Fun fact: Here in South Africa we don’t have the traditional ‘White Christmas’ with snow and hot chocolate, we spend Christmas at the beach! In the Southern hemisphere it’s almost summer time and I can hardly wait! My whole family will come from far and wide to celebrate Christmas time together and that is why I am so excited.
In other news, Fluentella will soon be adding another wonderful teacher to the team. This time, it is the lovely Julie from France. You are welcome to book a free French lesson with her- she is ready to meet the rest of the Fluentella Family! Bienvenue (welcome), Julie!
It is the tail end of the rainy season here in India. I’m looking forward to going outside and not getting drenched with the random rain showers throughout the day. Especially now that I am moving soon, a nice dry day is essential for getting all most stuff from point A to point B. Although I am only moving to a new neighborhood, it can be a difficult process to pack everything up and plan accordingly for a smooth transition. I’ve been living in the same apartment for almost a year now and while I’ll miss the ease of familiarity, I am excited about the change.
Wow, this year has flown by! Having started in the cold in England and moved to Bali there have been a lot of changes.
One of the biggest changes is that the festivities in England are completely different to here in Indonesia. At home people are already preparing gift lists, planning Christmas Day, putting the fires on and wrapping up warm ready for winter! Here in Bali, people are relaxing at the beach and drinking coconuts! Quite the opposite.
It will not be my first time in the sun for Christmas as I lived away in New Zealand for some years. However, it is always at this time of the year I get a little homesick as I love to be part of the Christmas spirit and seeing all the family.
I have been busy teaching this month and always have new prospects on the horizon living in Bali as it is a fast-changing place!
At the beginning of this month, my husband and I went to Dongying City, Shandong Province by train to attend my sister’s wedding. The wedding was fun. In order to take away the bride, the groom and the best man must pass many tests. First of all, the men play several games, such as drinking water mixed with various spices, applying lipstick, and breaking plastic wrap with their faces. Finally, the groom has to answer questions to get the bride’s shoes and take the bride away.
Then we came to the wedding hall, which is very bright and can accommodate 200 guests at the same time. The wedding begins. The beautiful bride is wearing a white wedding dress and walking to the groom holding her father’s hand. The groom expresses his love for the bride with a beautiful song. Next, the host told their love story. They met and fell in love at university. At that moment, my sister was so radiant, with a happy smile on her face. After the ceremony, the wedding banquet officially begins. We eat, drink and enjoy the delicious food. The bride and groom proposed a toast to us, and we raised our glasses together to wish them a long and happy life.
October has been a month filled with good news! We finally found a new apartment and we feel extremely happy! Despite the fact that it has meant hard work because of the move, it makes us feel delighted to be able to move into a new apartment. Some things take time but they’re worth it!
This month has shown to be such a roller coaster of emotions. As we near the end of another year, it would be normal to take the foot off the gas, but many plans and ideas are starting to arise and turn into shape, it is difficult to just relax. Especially because summer is approaching in Brazil and it is getting hotter and hotter. I can already picture myself: instead of white Christmas with sweaters and hot cocoa, we are going to the beach, while sipping coconut water and wearing flip flops.

“Get excited about the culture!
Language and culture are interconnected. If you want to improve your proficiency in a language you need to understand the culture that language comes from.
Few language courses give culture its proper due. In my opinion culture is the the most important and overlooked aspect of learning a language. If you aren’t fascinated by the culture behind that language then you’ll have a hard time maintaining your enthusiasm for learning that language.
Seek out music, books, TV shows, movies, food and blogs that connect you with the culture of the language you’re learning. Fall in love with the culture that you’re learning about and you’ll rapidly and effortlessly learn your target language.” read more at http://braziliangringo.com/tips-learn-portuguese/

Up for setting a new world record on Guinness World Record Day?
准备在吉尼斯世界纪录日创造新的世界纪录？November 8th is Guinness World Record Day! Check out this amazing record!
“How far would you go to break a record? Well, football freestyler and multiple record holder John Farnworth journeyed to the Sahara Desert, Morocco, to attempt a record in one of the most challenging landscapes on earth. 🐪
”Challenge Sahara”, a 100km trek in the Sahara Desert, was created by John to fundraise for @derianhousechildrenshospice, and he decided to attempt to break a Guinness World Records title in the process. The record he attempted was the farthest distance covered juggling a football in an hour. Choosing one of the harshest environments on earth, he worked with @GoPro to document his journey.
Despite having strong winds, intense heat, and tough terrain to contend with, he managed to set the record at 5.82 km (3.61 mi).”
